Originally designed back in the fall of 2018 and recently revamped in 2021, Cementerio De Luz focuses on using traditional Miami Breeze Blocks as a way to filter light into the project while simultaneously controlling the circulation + air into the non-enclosed program.

Project Overview

Placed on a theoretical site in Miami, Florida, students were to design a cemetery entry that housed a Flower shop and restroom for those who visit.

Project Program

The flower shop becomes an experience in which someone using the space can create their own bouquet using the live wall of flowers. From there you can continue into the cemetery or visit loved one's urns within the mausoleum. The central breeze blocks forming the shape of a cross is placed to shine light continuously into the cemetery grounds to reflect that there is a life after this one.
