SluisDeur

Sluisdeur In Sluisdeur, a project that renovates the existing D.A.S.H. (Design and Architecture Senior High School courtyard and entrance wall, the concept follows high and low tides. Using how said tides hide and reveal elements within a body of water, this project is focused on solving the issue that is the relationship between the privacy of the school and those who inhabit said school and the general public of the Design District in which the school is situated in. The selected precedent, the Chokkura Plaza, informs the projects transparency. According to Kengo Kuma, the plaza was, “. . . to create a new station plaza that would play a leading role in the community activities, centered round an old storehouse, an Oya stone masonry, which was to be preserved. Debris of Oya stone from the storehouse are reused and combined with steel plates arranged diagonally in order to create attempts to achieve transparency by making the most of the material’s texture.”
